Love You Bushels: A Memoir of Mom

“In my hall closet, behind the vacuum cleaner and under a pile of books, I found the box of greeting cards.”  Like many friends my age, I’m looking for ways to latch onto memories while my parent is still here. There in an old, forgotten boxes of greeting cards was a narrative I hadn’t pieced together before. The contents of that box told a surprising story of mother and son. Read my essay Love You Bushels.

This piece was published on Valentine’s Day 2014, and I followed it with a PBS Next Avenue essay on how Mother’s Day traditions have changed, which I published on Mother’s Day 2014.
